The Dome of the Cathedral is the symbol of Florence and is a wonderful sight. For many this is their favourite cathedral and you’ll find it difficult to say whether you are more impressed by the features inside or the amazing façade of the church.

The Battistero is another great architectural design in the city of Florence. But it is the Gates of Paradise that everyone has to see and admire. Because of the precious nature of the Gates they have been taken indoors for restoration and exact replicas are in place for you to see. They date from 1425 and are truly a wonderful sight. These are the East Doors but make sure you also pay attention to the South and North Doors.

The San Lorenzo is the oldest church in the city - first consecrated in 393 AD. The outside is bare and impressive. The inside is also quite austere and majestic but look at Donatello’s work inside - the two magnificent bronze pulpits and also the choir. You’ll want to see it. Behind the Church are the stunning Medici Chapels - the cupola in the Chapel of the Princes is just sumptuous.

Yes you have to pay homage to Michelangelo’s most famous work. The original is in the Galleria which has many other great Michelangelo sculptures and those of other well known artists. The David here is the original and you can also see a copy outside the Palazzo Vecchio where the original first was placed.
